CHANCE FAVORS THE CONNECTED MIND. 05.02.11
as a frequent purveyor of ted.com, i was surprised that it took me so long to come across this video. posted by my friend candita, steven johnson’s “where good ideas come from” really drives at the core of not only how the workplace needs to be set up to foster great ideas, but also how educational institutions need to be set up. recently i was talking with some visiting book artists from the uk about my topographic bookscapes and just discussing the possibilities of the project has opened up the project so much, simply once again proving the benefits of an open discursive environment. whatever you want to call it - collaboration, ping pong, brainstorming, what have you - this open discussion involving different minds is necessary in creating truly brilliant and innovative ideas. in a country where we emphasize the reclusive genius, its refreshing to see someone touch on how important collaboration and the design of the community space is to invention, “genius”, and idea-making.
