UPCOMING SHOW 05.02.11
my drive out to redlands yesterday morning reminded me of some of the beautiful views i used to get to see on my drives out to palm desert for a project last semester. the project was a study of large tracts of suburban retirement communities in the inland empire and a look into these bizarre placescapes of unsustainability (entire “self-sustained” communities located in the desert) and the problematic raced, classed homogeneity of these small cities. The sites, also, however, provide an amazing outlet of support and activity for the increasingly disenfranchised elderly. i’m hoping to continue my work on this project, but i’ll be showing some of the work at show at pomona on february 12th. i’ll be posting more photos from this project over the next week. regardless of how much i get to continue with this project, hopefully i’ll get to see more of these beautiful views on my drives out there this semester.
